Product Award 2011: Danish designer behind the worlds best selling e-cigaret
Better heat distribution, longer battery life, enhanced safety and a solid design has made the Janty eGo become the worlds best selling e-cigaret of all times. Janty is in the running for the Product Award 2011, within the health/medico category.

Coming from a background as a smoker, and with a family which also smoked, Mik Dahl decided that the entire family should quit smoking traditional cigarettes. In order to succeed, he had to solve a lot of problems – and by doing so he ended up creating a new electronic cigarette, the Janty eGo, which currently is the most popular, and best selling e-cigaret in the world.
Before this e-cigarette hit the market, the typical e-cigarette would last between 1 to 3 hours on a charge, while the Janty eGo lasts for about a day before it needs re-charging. Re-charging happens via a USB cable, making it easy to do so.
Mik Dahl is the Head Designer at Janty, and the design has been an important part of this new e-cigarette. In his own words, previous designs from competitors, were “Similar to a cigarette, or a pipebomb, and the taste of them was at best, doubtful”.
Instead Janty's design team, led by Mik Dahl, decided to go with a classic design, sporting elegant lines, while keeping the functionality intact: The Janty eGo has a conical shaped unit, which embraces the so called “atomizer”, a heating-element which exists in all e-cigarettes. By inventing this conical shaped unit, you would avoid any leakage of liquid into say the pockets of a user, at the same time it gives the e-cigarette a nice design to look at, but first and foremost it helps warm up and spread the heat from the atomizer evenly, to maximize the smoking experience.
Last but not least, it was the Janty eGo that, as the worlds first e-cigarette, introduced safety as a part of the package: Naturally it protects against any short-circuiting that could happen, but if for some odd reason the print board inside would fail to stop this from happening, then the logo at the bottom of the Janty eGo was designed to “pop off”, as opposed to the whole e-cigarette exploding. This safety detail is now becoming a standard worldwide.
